TYPES OF TANKS
- DESIGN OF CIRCULAR WATER TANK RESTING ON THE GROUND WITH FLEXIBLE BASE
- DESIGN OF CIRCULAR WATER TANK RESTING ON GROUND WITH RIGID BASE
- DESIGN OF RECTANGULAR WATER TANK RESTING ON THE GROUND WITH FLEXIBLE BASE
- Storage tanks are built for storing water, liquid petroleum, petroleum products & similar liquids
- Designed as crack-free structures to eliminate any leakage
- The permeability of concrete is directly proportional to the water-cement ratio.
- Cement content ranging from 330 Kg/m3 to 530 Kg/m3 is recommended in order to keep shrinkage low
HOUSE WATER TANK DESIGN
Design Components of water tank:
1. Side Walls (Rectangular or cylindrical)
2. Base slab
3. Cover slab or dome
Permissible stresses:
The method of design adopted for the design of the water tank is the working stress method. The permissible stress values in concrete and steel are given in Tables 21 and 22 of IS456-2000, as follows:
MINIMUM REINFORCEMENT AS PER IS CODE
The minimum reinforcement in walls, floors and roofs in each of two directions at right angles shall have an area of 0.3 per cent of the concrete section in that direction for sections up to 100 mm, thickness.
For sections of thickness greater than 100 mm, and less than 450 mm the minimum reinforcement in each of the two directions shall be linearly reduced from 0.3 per cent for 100 mm. thick sections to 0.2 per cent for 450 mm, thick sections.
For sections of thickness greater than 450 mm, minimum reinforcement in each of the two directions shall be kept at 0.2 per cent.
In concrete sections of thickness 225 mm or greater, two layers of reinforcement steel shall be placed one near each face of the section to make up the minimum reinforcement.
In special circumstances, floor slabs may be constructed with a percentage of reinforcement less than specified above. In no case, the percentage of reinforcement in any member be less than 15% of the gross sectional area of the member
