what is pile foundation.?
Pile foundations are Classified into deep foundations. They are formed by long elements typically made from steel or reinforced concrete (generally RCC), or sometimes timber(olden days). A foundation is described as 'piled' when its depth is more than three times its breadth
why we need a pile foundation.?
- Low SBC
- Superstructure load is high
- To take care of lateral load
Types of Pile Foundations
- Bored Piles / Cast in situ piles
- Driven Piles/ precast piles
- Micro piles
- Sheet Piles
- Timber Piles
- Screw Piles
Piles can be used individually or grouped and linked together with a reinforced concrete cap to support the load. As it is very difficult to bore or drive piles exactly vertical, the pile cap should be able to accommodate some deviation in the final position of the pile cap The pile cap should overhang the outer piles, typically by a distance of 100-150 mm on all sides, depending on the size of the pile.
