Short description
Number of Brick Required
Here we will know about How to calculate the number of bricks in a wall by using the Thumb Rule based on experience & calculation
Generally, There are two types of brick wall
1. 9" Brickwork (all outer wall)
2. 4.5" Brickwork (partition wall)
1. 9" Brickwork (all outer wall)
- 1 Sqm area = 100 bricks required
- 1 Sqft area = 10 bricks required
2. 4.5" Brickwork (all outer wall)
- 1 Sqm area = 50 bricks required
- 1 Sqft area = 5 bricks required
Detailed description
Two types of Brick walls, In this one, is a full brick wall has a thickness with mortar is 200mm. Other is a half- brick wall have a thickness is 100mm, in India, the standard size of brick is 190mm × 90mm × 90mm, in which length is 190mm, breadth is 90mm & thickness is 90mm, thickness of mortar is 10mm, add 10mm mortar in each dimension of brick, so nominal size of brick is 200mm × 100mm × 100mm.
How to calculate bricks in a wall:
For half brick – thick wall /Partition wall /4.5" /115mm
1) Using the thumb rule, half brick wall or singular layer or 4.5″ brick wall, multiply the wall length by the height to get the area measured
For Example 1
Length of wall 10 feet and height of wall 10 feet then area
= 10x10
= 100Sqft
Thumb rule
1 Sqm area = 50 bricks required
1 Sqft area = 5 bricks required
For 10 X 10 number of brick required
=100x5
= 50 nos
2. Add @10% extra for wastage & breakage during transportation storage & brick wall installation.
Brick required =50 +10% of 50
= 55 number required
Example 2
consider a half brick wall of length 12.5 m and height is 4m,
area = 12.5× 4 = 50 sqm,
The number of bricks = (50 × 50) + 10% of (50 × 50) = 2750 nos,
so there are 2750 nos bricks you will need for 50 square meters of half brick – thick wall.
For one brick–thick wall/9" Brick /230mm
1) Using the thumb rule, half brick wall or singular layer or 9″ brick wall, multiply the wall length by the height to get the area measured
For Example 1
Length of wall 10 feet and height of wall 10 feet then area
= 10x10
= 100Sqft
Thumb rule
1 Sqm area = 100 bricks required
1 Sqft area = 10 bricks required
For 10 X 10 number of bricks required
=100x10
=1000 nos
2. Add @10% extra for wastage & breakage during transportation storage & brick wall installation.
Brick required =1000 +10% of 1000
= 1100 number required
Example 2
consider a half brick wall of length 12.5 m and height is 4m,
area = 12.5× 4 = 50 sqm,
The number of bricks = (50 × 100) + 10% of (50 × 100) = 5500 nos,
so there are 5500 nos bricks you will need for 50 square meters of half brick – thick wall.
