INTRODUCTION - SOIL TEST REPORT

This report presents the test results and recommendations for the allowable safe bearing capacity/pile carrying capacity and type of foundations.

SCOPE OF WORK

In order to estimate the safe bearing capacity/pile carrying capacity and to decide suitable foundation systems for the proposed structure, it was decided by the client to make 3 nos. of boreholes up to 10m depth or very dense strata with N value more than 50, whichever is met earlier and to conduct the field and laboratory tests.

LAB TEST

• Tests were conducted as per the procedures laid down in the relevant Indian Standards Specifications.  
• Tests viz., Grain Size Analysis, Atterberg’s  Limits and Differential Free Swell Index were conducted

CONCLUSION

For the proposed building,  isolated footings can be provided at 1.8m depth from the existing ground levels where the footings will rest on loose to medium dense sand (S1) layer.  The recommended allowable safe bearing capacity is  14 t/sqm.   The expected total settlement will be less than 50mm, which is permissible as per IS : 1904. 

If the isolated footings are not adequate to safely carry the superimposed loads on the footings, alternatively,  RCC Strip Raft footings can be provided at 1.8m depth from the existing ground levels where  the footings will rest on loose to medium dense sand (S1) layer.   The recommended allowable safe bearing capacity is 16 t/sqm.  The expected total settlement will be less than 75mm, which is permissible as per IS : 1904

Since, the subsoil layers are consists of mainly fine sand and silt,  sufficient care shall be taken not to disturb the subsoil present below and around the footings up to the pressure influence of the footings.
